Numerous cameos of Urusei Yatsura were featured in anime adaptations of Rumiko Takahashi's major manga series, this is a list of cameos as seen in anime adaptations of the major works of Rumiko Takahashi:

Maison Ikkoku[]

  • Onsen-Mark can be seen at the beginning of Episode 1.
  • TOMOBE KECHO ATARU (which is a reference to Tomobiki Cho (Tomobiki Town (友引町)) can be seen at the beginning of Episode 3.
  • Yotsuya says he's going to watch a video of Urusei Yatsura in Episode 96.
  • In Maison Ikkoku Kanketsu-Hen:
    • Ibuki Yagami imitates Lum.
    • McEnroe and Salad's puppies are introduced named Sugar, Ginger & Pepper like the Three Girls Gang.

Ranma 1/2[]

  • In the episode "The Abduction of P-Chan", after Ranma turns into a girl for skating lessons, and likewise gets Ryoga out of the way by turning him into P-can, one of the two boys who were stunned by their transformations thereafter resembles Ataru while they try to trigger a transformation themselves.

  • On top of being voiced by Fumi Hirano, who provided the voice of Lum, Sakura's Mother's color scheme may be a strong reference to Lum, and she is physically similar to Fumi Hirano.
  • Three previews of a next episode have characters speaking in reference to Urusei Yatsura:
    • The preview for Episode 35 at the end of Episode 34.
    • The preview for Episode 67 at the end of Episode 66.
    • The preview for Episode 70 at the end of Episode 69.

  • In episodes 792 and 793 of the anime, a suspect named Rum is used to make references to Urusei Yatsura, with Ai Haibara even adding the word "-datcha" to her sentences in reference to Lum's iconic saying, and Lum herself even makes a cameo appearance.
  • Episode 1011 features several references to Urusei Yatsura.
  • The character of Yamamura is voiced by Toshio Furukawa and Rumi is voiced by Fumi Hirano, Ataru and Lum's original voice actors.
  • Gosho Aoyama the author claims to have even named Rumi after Rumiko Takahashi.
  • The 6th Detective Conan film The Phantom of Baker Street featured a police officer by the name of Toshio Moroboshi who was named after both Ataru and his voice actor Toshio Furukawa.

  • Season 3, Episode 22 featured a planet with a city called Tomobiki with an area dubbed the "Lum District"

  • In the Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, mentions the Oni and their homeworld of Uru from MedStar again further explaining that Oni are a militaristic race.
  • In the Star Wars The Essential Atlas, the planet Uru's grid coordinates were given as L-19 within the Atravis Sector near Mustafar.

  • In Episode 151, as reality becomes unstable, Godzilla appears in Tomobiki and seems to stay there by the end of the episode where he is seen fighting the local militia.

  • In 1983 and 84's episodes, Ataru made several references to wanting to go see Return of the Jedi.
  • Lum's Stormtroopers named their order after the troopers from the franchise.

  • A cafe in Tomobiki is named Cafe Pigmon.
  • In Chapter 23 (24 in Wideban), two Ultramen appear to represent the constellation of Gemini, however they were replaced with two Dappyamen in Episode 14.
  • In Episode 32, Ultraman and his human host Shin Hayata appear.
  • In Episode 46, Ultraman is seen among the fighting students and teachers.
  • In Episode 107, several students are seen wearing Ultraman masks.
  • In Episode 137, Ryūnosuke dresses up as Ultraman.
  • In Episode 148, Ultraman masks are being sold.
  • In Episode 151, several SSSP forces appear in Tomobiki to fight off an attacking Godzilla.
  • In Episode 157, Ataru and the others go see an Ultraman movie.
  • In Episode 178, shadows of Pigmon and Garamon appear.
