Plot[]
- a
Tobimaru, tries to climb over the Tomobiki High School gate with a ladder, but is warned to stop by Onsen-Mark. However, Tobimaru doesn't listen to Onsen's warning, claiming he has a score to settle. Just then, Tobimaru's ladder comically topples over onto the opposite side of the gate.
Meanwhile, on the school baseball field, the annual Tomobiki High School Sports Tournament was held, where Ataru was acting, the pitcher, and Mendō was up to bat. Unbeknownst to Mendō, Ataru and Kōsuke had planned to let Mendō's team win in hopes of getting free tickets to his family's pool resort. From atop a tree, Tobimaru watches the scene unfold and is soon knocked down from the tree by Mendō's foul ball.
After the students check to see if Tobimaru is alright, Mendō immediately recognizes him as his old friend. Mendō then introduces Tobimaru as heir to the Mizunokōji Sports Empire and explains his complicated relationship with him to everyone. Vowing to have his revenge against Mendō, Tobimaru challenges him to a baseball duel; however, Mendō declines since he's taking part in his school's sports tournament.
Riding on "horseback", Ryōko arrives at the scene and requests Ataru to allow Tobimaru to join his team. Hence, Mendō wagers that if he wins the baseball game, Ryōko would renounce her love for Tobimaru, and she agrees. Initially, Ataru is skeptical of allowing Tobimaru to play, but after seeing that his baseball skills were terrible, he allows him to join.
Once Tobimaru was up to bat, he hits the ball with the help of Ryōko's servants. Ataru then scrambles to stop the servants from interfering with the baseball game, but in the end, Tobimaru and he fall into a pit hole dug by one of Ryōko's servants, ending the game with another tie.
- b
At the Mendō Estate, Tobomaru waited underneath the bridge that Mendō crossed every morning at 6:00 am to walk his octopuses. In light of Mendō's absence, Ryōko walked her brother's octopuses instead. Believing it was Mendō crossing the bridge, Tobimaru delivered a letter of challenge, and Ryōko received and interpreted it as a love letter to her. Moments later, Mendō arrives at the scene and reveals that the prank Ryōko pulled on him the other day made him miss his beloved walk. Spotting the letter Tobimaru had "given" to her, Mendō wanted to stop Ryōko, but was instead blown up by her, who vowed to meet with her beloved.
Afterward, Ataru enjoys lunch with Lum and his parents, when after receiving a call from Ryōko, Ataru is roped into a situation involving Ryōko. Upset that Ataru had been whisked away by Ryōko, Lum grasps the situation from the letter left behind by Ryōko.
Meanwhile, Tobimaru awaits Mendō's arrival at the designated location, but is soon joined by Lum and Ataru, Ryōko, and Mendō. The situation escalates when Lum reveals Tobimaru's letter of challenge, which is still misinterpreted as a love letter by the group, to Tobimaru's dismay. Enraged by Tobimaru's audacity, Mendō attacks Tobimaru causing a string of mishaps around the location, and in the end, Mendō gave Tobimaru his blessing to marry Ryōko.
