Plot[]
- a
Ran purchases some taiyaki at a taiyaki shop and Lum spots her from above. Lum then approaches and startles Ran, asking her if she's made any progress with Rei. However, Ran interprets the question as Lum trying to ruin her chances with Rei believing her to have since dumped Ataru in favor of Rei.
Afterward, sitting on top of a withered tree on a foreign planet, Ran feeds the taiyaki to Rei. After eating a couple of the taiyaki, Rei eats a piece of her Ran's cheek which she believed was a kiss from her.
That night, Ran has Lum over at her house for a tea party in her room, where she confesses that Rei "kissed her". Instead of acting jealous like she anticipated, Lum was overjoyed by the news, which Ran received well.
Flying home after her tea party with Ran, Lum flies over to Ataru's room to tell him the good news, but is surprised by the presence of Rei (monster form), Ten, and Kotatsu-neko. Immediately, Rei transforms back into his alien form and embraces Lum. Moments later, Ran arrives, hoping to have more girl talk with Lum, only to be surprised by Rei touching Lum. As Ran cries on Ataru's lap, Kotatsu-neko offers her a taiyaki, and she frustratedly devours it, prompting Rei to eat the leftover anko on her face. This action creates the misunderstanding of Rei kissing Ran, which causes her to cry out in joy.
- b
Ran invites a suspicious Lum to a cafe, who notes her typical emotional shifts; however, Ran pins the blame on that on Lum. A flashback showed when Lum stayed at Ran's house when they were five; Lum pinned the blame for peeing on Ran's bed, causing Ran's Mother to scold her.
Lum tries to play it off as a childhood thing, but Ran argues there was more to that event than met the eye. Switching back over to the flashback, Lum tries to console the emotional Ran by letting her not only have her favorite doll, but also have Ran stay at her house. Though, once again, Lum pinned the blame for bedwetting on Ran, which Ran's mother learned about the following day.
Another instance Ran mentions is when they were eight, Lum provoked a monster to see who could outrun it for an ice cream. During their escape from the monster, Lum tries to fly away and escape with Ran in hand, only to slam her into a cliffside. They later purchase some ice cream, where Lum pays for Ran's, but makes her pay for hers, noting she paid for Ran out of guilt, but she still lost their bet.
In the present again, Lum tries to downplay Ran's tormented instances, claiming she's being painted as a villain. Lum then gives an example of when they played darts as kids; one of Ran's darts breaks her mother's favorite doll. Despite Lum trying to take the blame for it, Ran's mother could tell by the different color darts that Lum had and scolded Ran, calling her a liar.
All these instances caused Ran to have the duplicitous and livid personality she has in modern times, making Lum remorseful. When the two leave the cafe, a glum Lum leaves first, and a cheerful Ran follow, only to be stopped by the waiter who served them and asks Ran to pay for what she ordered. This makes Ran become furious for having to pay what Lum was supposed to pay.
- c
While on a jog, Lum catches Sakura roasting a newt and is soon joined by Shinobu. When they ask why she's roasting a newt, Sakura answers that it's for medicinal reasons and lists off the benefits. Initially, they're uninterested in the benefits until Sakura claims the roasted newt can also be used as an ingredient for a love potion.
Later, in a room within Sakura's home, Lum and Shinobu assist Sakura in creating a love potion, where Chery soon joins them and claims that Sakura once used it on someone she "loves". Once the "potion" was finished, its appearance looked more like a piece of candy, and both Lum and Shinobu took their potions to use on their targets.
Afterward, Lum uses it on Ataru, who immediately becomes infatuated with Lum, but as they walk outside together, a man asks for directions to a certain residence. Ataru then gives the man a morose melodramatic story involving the residence causing the man to run away panic-stricken. Ataru's attitude perplexes Lum, and they then run into Ataru's Mother accompanied by a friend of hers, where Ataru admits he's not her real son.
Meanwhile, Shinobu sits on a bench and contemplates, who she should give her love potion to. It's then that Ataru confesses her love to Shinobu, causing Lum to lose it on Ataru.
Later, Sakura confesses that she didn't make a love potion for them, but a "loud" potion, which makes the victim a loud-mouthed liar.
