Plot[]
- a
A famished Ataru walks home, looking forward to enjoying some sukiyaki. However, Ataru's sukiyaki hopes are dashed by Lum, suited in armor, who forces him to partake in an event called Setsubun on her planet. Despite arguing against being dragged away from his sukiyaki cravings, Lum forcibly takes Ataru through an interdimensional portal she created in his room leading to her home planet.
Arriving at their destination, Ataru is startled by what he preserves as a war setting with the Oni aliens vs. Gods of Luck, which Lum's Father confirms. Ataru's woeful cries are heard by his Mother back on Earth, who worries about him, as he's a glutton for sukiyaki. The sound of the conch horn commences the war... of a tower basket toss, which leaves Ataru unimpressed until he spots the beautiful girl on the opposing side. Fueled by his amorous nature, Ataru starts to hit on her, while Lum scolds him for hitting on her best friend Benten. Again, Ataru's parents hear his voice after they finish off the sukiyaki, and Cherry visits them, claiming he had a dream vision that Ataru had died and his spirit was haunting their home. To remedy their situation, Cherry suggests a Segaki ritual is held, which involves eating sukiyaki in front of Ataru's altar.
Returning to the basket tower toss war, Ataru continues hitting on Benten, which agitates Lum. Benten takes advantage of Lum's wrath by coaxing Ataru to almost kiss her, making Lum tip over the basket tower. In the end, the Oni side loses, and Ataru is forced to take the punishment for losing. Back on Earth, Cherry enjoys the sukiyaki prepared for him with Ataru's parents and is then coerced by Ataru's mother to perform a prayer for her departed son. Said prayer reveals Ataru is facing his punishment where beans are thrown at him by the Oni and God Luck clans.

Bedridden in his room because of a cold, Shinobu offers the sick Ataru if he'd like some apple slices, but Cherry eats them. Just then, Akira, Satoshi, Hokuto, and Mendō visit Ataru, but there are upset that Lum isn't there. Ataru states that Lum was off visiting a friend in Neptune, much to the fanboys dismay. Instantly, Ataru's room becomes covered in frost, and Cherry claims the source of the anomaly came from the room closet. Mendō opens it, and a few seconds later, an avalanche covers the room in snow. When Akira and Hokuto dig out Ataru, they find him held by a Yuki-Onna named Oyuki. Feeling unwelcomed by Cherry and Shinobu, Oyuki volunteers to leave, but offers the fanboys to follow her through the portal way she entered through.
Everyone follows Oyuki through the portal way, where she leads them to a giant hole where two voices call out to Oyuki, one of whom is Lum. Oyuki jumps into the hole, and Ataru is kicked into it by Mendō, transporting him to Neptune, where Lum and Oyuki's servants are. Soon, the fanboys, Mendō, Shinobu, and Cherry, join them, and while the boys handle shoveling snow, the rest are led to Oyuki's palace. There, Ataru fawns over Oyuki, who leaves to prepare some tea and irks some rebukes from Shinobu and Lum, who makes Ataru flee with her electric shocks.
Approached by Oyuki in a hallway, she offers to guide Ataru back to the living room, but Ataru refuses, claiming he's a deadman if he returns there. Hence, Oyuki takes him to her room to rest, escalating into B-Bo, Oyuki's yeti guardian, chasing Ataru back to his world. There, Ataru makes the news for being held hostage by the yeti on top of his home. Eventually, a fully bandaged Ataru is bedridden again, and Mendō is shown to have stayed behind to continue shoveling for the Neptunians, despite being noticeably exhausted.
- c
At Tomobiki High School, Onsen-Mark concludes the class' first semester, and Lum visits, hoping to walk home with Ataru. However, Ataru makes a formal announcement to the class concerning his retirement. Onsen believed Ataru's retirement stemmed from his report card, noting how awful Ataru's grades were. On the other hand, Ataru clarifies that wasn't it and before he can explain any further, Mendō cuts in, presuming he's retiring as the anime's main character. As Mendō alludes to being the anime's next main character, Cherry appears and claims it'll be him. Things escalate with the arrival of Sakura and others vying for the Main character position until Ataru proclaims, he's retiring as class president.
