Miki (みき, Miki?) is a minor female character best known for her apparent romantic associations with Kōsuke Shirai.
Biography[]
The girl known only as Miki is a mysterious being about whom little is known - even her name was created by the 1981 animated adaptation, and she goes unnamed in the manga. She first appears when Kōsuke goes looking for a girl willing to play the part of a fictitious lover for Ataru Moroboshi, as part of a scheme to humiliate the infamously popular Shūtarō Mendō.
It's unclear where she comes from; she's clearly a 2nd year high school student, but it's unclear if she attends a different class at Tomobiki High, or if she's from a neighboring school.
She fails to carry through her mission; having spent the money that Kōsuke paid her on a massive feast of pizza, ramen, a hamburger, a steamed pork bun, a roasted sweet potato, a savory pancake, ice cream and caramel rice crackers, she is struck down a massive stomachache, leaving her unable to attend the meeting.
She next appears on a Tanabata; evidently having struck up a relationship with Kōsuke since she was last seen, she is now on a date with him. The two encounter Lum and Ataru, and decide to try double-dating for a time. They enjoy a brief stint skating in a local skate park, before she gets hungry and drags them all to a nearby cafe. Here, she proceeds to stuff herself on food, with Kōsuke mentioning to an appalled Ataru that her nickname is "Saint Stomach". Once she finally gets full, the two couples part ways; Kōsuke is out of money and has to cut his date short, whilst Ataru and Lum head to an amusement park.
Personality[]
In her brief appearances, Miki is shown to have an opportunistic manner. She happily accepts a ploy to pretend to be Ataru's girlfriend in exchange for money, and when on a date with Kōsuke in the manga, she uses the excuse that Kōsuke is paying to gorge herself. She is affectionate in her brief interactions with Kōsuke, but her defining feature is her love of food; when given the opportunity, she is both referred to and shown devouring massive meals made up of multiple courses of food, literally eating until she gets sick.
Trivia[]
- Whilst the girl who appears in Chapter 26 is not explicitly the same girl who appears in chapter 36, their identical appearances and shared gluttony has led to the reasonable assumption that they are supposed to be the same person.
- Strangely, the girl who gives Kōsuke a Valentine's Day chocolate in Chapter 119 is not Mitzi, but an unnamed new female character.
