Lum the Invader Girl is the British English gag dub of Urusei Yatsura. It aired on BBC Choice as part of a "Japan Night" special in August 2000. Like many gag dubs, the voice acting was redone and the dub only followed the basics elements of the original script, replacing them with jokes.
This dub was recorded in the United Kingdom and featured English comedian Matt Lucas as Ataru and actress Anna Friel as Lum, while much of the other cast were British dubbing regulars.
The dub only cover episodes 1 and 3 of the anime and is only thought to have aired once and was never released on VHS or DVD. Fans of the dub have however record it and have uploaded it to the internet via YouTube and other video sites.
Episode 2 was skipped from the dub for unknown reasons.
Plot[]
While the plot generally holds true, many liberties were taken with the translation; mainly played for laughs, with some bits descending into parody and local referential humour (Lum’s father, the working class Mr. Invader, is introduced as “the voice of Bert Fry in The Archers").
