The entrance to the Mendō Estate.
The Mendō Estate is the main private home of Shūtarō Mendō and his family and also serves as the headquarters for the Mendō Zaibatsu.
Description[]
The Mendō Estate is a massive private territory of unfathomable size, as expected of the family that rules over 51% of Japan and the economy. Aside from the main mansion, the estate has vast fields, forests, private theme parks, gymnasiums, Olympic-sized pools, private aquariums for their pet octopi, massive bio-domes with both jungle and antarctic habitats for their exotic collections of rare octopi, other animals and plants, and many other private adobes, staff quarters and recreational areas, as well as some areas which have been forgotten or fallen into disrepair due to the ridiculously huge size of the estate making mapping difficult. The perplexing size of the mansion and the estate also make it difficult for the Mendō Clan to keep in touch, with Shūtarō claiming that his family is lucky to run into each other even once a week at best or once a month at most.
The estate (or at least its entrance) seems to be located on the outskirts of Tomobiki in an elevated area overlooking the town.
Locations[]
Mendō Mansion[]
The Mendō Mansion is the main residence of the Mendo Clan, a massive palace of western-inspired architecture and some eastern influenced buildings connected to it. Mendo is quite proud of his home and its vast size, although this same vastness along with the even more massive size of the state makes interaction with his family difficult, as the main mansion alone houses 36 dining rooms, 532 toilets, 195 baths and 18 bedrooms and one can easily get lost or lose contact for weeks at a time.
Shūtarō Mendō's Bedroom[]
Mendo's Bedroom is a large and elegant room within the mansion that houses a king-sized bed with white linens and pillows that are of expensive design. The bedroom occasionally houses Mendo's collection of armors, swords and a large tribal mask of exotic foreign origin. Its possible Mendo has many bedrooms but this one seems to be the most frequently used one.
Shū-chan's Treasure Box[]
Shū-chan's Treasure Box is a massive vault-like facility located deep beneath the estate that houses Shūtarō Mendō personal treasures and collectibles. Such as his private reserves of gold and yen, a vast collection of fully-functioning warplanes and tanks, with his Panzer being his most treasured vehicle, and many other rare and valuable items. The vault itself is made from the highly durable Mendo Special Metal developed by the clan's Research Group which is near-invulnerable to conventional human weapons and explosives. The vault is also equipped with all manner of highly dangerous booby traps to keep out and eliminate thieves, and is even programmed to flood itself in order to drown potential intruders, washing them away into the estate's aqueduct. Both Mendo and Ataru Moroboshi became trapped here for a while which forced the two to begrudgingly co-operate in order to survive.
Octopus Aquarium[]
The Octopus Aquarium is a large private pool housed within a private facility where the Mendo clan keep their beloved pet octopi and where they are allowed to swim and play freely. They rarely ever leave their safe haven unless it's to spend time with Shutaro or go on their daily strolls with their masters. The interior usually changes in appearance but usually appears as a large Olympic-sized pool with pillars, recreational areas and sleeping quarters for the octopi to relax in.
Western Building[]
Shūtarō Building-1[]
Shūtarō Building-1 is a massive skyscraper located on what appears to be an island or surrounded by a moat near the Shūtarō Crater that's owned and operated by Shūtarō Mendō and his personal brigade. While seemingly used for recreational activities, the building was instead used as Mendō's final fortress to hide Lum away from Ataru when he attempted to rescue her. The building was highly fortified during the fiasco and surrounded by the most deadly of Mendō's artillery at the time.
Shūtarō Crater[]
The Shūtarō Crater was the impact site where Lum's spaceship crash landed in after a fight with Ataru and which served as the start of Lum's retrieval event.
Ryoko Memorial Auditorium[]
The Ryoko Memorial Auditorium is a huge multi-story building located within the C-Block of the estate that is owned and managed by Ryōko Mendō and her personal army the Kuroko Group and was once used as the setting for Ryoko's Summer Christmas party and was used to house a gigantic Christmas tree that was almost as large as the building itself. The building is capable of transforming into a launching platform which Ryoko used to launch the gigantic Christmas tree into the sky and blow it up (along with everyone who was climbing on it) in a magnificent display of snowy fireworks after she grew jealous of her party guests having "fun" without her.
Ryoko Tower[]
The Ryoko Tower is a rustic building owned by Ryōko that serves as one of her many private bases for her and her Kuroko Group. It was here where she hid Ataru and nursed him back to health after he invaded the estate in order to save Lum and its also where she gave him the motorcycle he would he use to reach Shūtarō Building-1.
Mendō Iron Bridge[]
The Mendō Iron Bridge is a massive railway bridge that serves as the main method of reaching Shūtarō Building-1. The bridge was destroyed by Mendo's forces during Ataru's attempts to rescue Lum.
Mendō Hospital[]
The Mendō Hospital is a massive and fully-staffed hospital building located within the estate that's likely used to treat members of the clan as well as their countless number of servants, guards and other employees.
Austrapolar Dome[]
The Austrapolar Dome is a large tunnel-like artificial environment that was created to serve as the private sanctuary for the Mendo Clan's most prized octopus, Prince Matsu-Chiyo the incredibly rare Austrapolar Octopus which must be kept cold at all times or otherwise it will grow to titanic size. The area even simulates stormy blizzards and at its end is a large freezing lake that contains a single floating takotsubo jar on its surface that acts as the home of Matsu-Chiyo. The Mendo Family spared no expense for this area as aside from Mendo's afection for the octopus, Matsu-Chiyo's status as a member of the world's rarest octopus species makes him an ideal status symbol.
Tropical Dome[]
The Tropical Dome is a massive greenhouse located near the Antarctic Dome which is used by the Mendo family to house their large assortment of exotic pets, such as leopards, snakes and many other vicious tropical creatures and exotic jungle plantlife. It is also here where Prince Matsu-Chiyo runs off to whenever he wants to grow in size.
Shū-chan's 5th Birthday Amusement Park[]
For his 5th birthday, Shūtarō's grandfather gave him his very own amusement park built in the outskirts near the Tropical Dome complete with functioning roller coasters, ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, food stands and many other attractions. Over time though the park was forgotten by the family and its entrance fell into disrepair with the only employee left being the half-crazed ticket puncher Heihachiro. Despite its abandonment and its entrance falling to ruin, the rest of the park remained in mostly good condition and many of the rides were still working despite going unused for 12 years.
Ice Lake[]
The Ice Lake is a large body of thinly frozen water located beyond the abandoned amusement park which is kept frozen by a horde of hostile robotic penguins which can produce the highest quality shaved ice imaginable.
Hedge Maze[]
A large hedge maze that was built to guard the family treasure, however it was recklessly burned down by Ten. At the end of the maze lies a massive octopus statue depicted in the style of the Mendō family crest which can be raised from the ground through a special button that reveals a secret passageway that leads straight to Mendō's Grandfather's room.
