Oshima (○島, Oshima?) is a female tanuki who appears in Urusei Yatsura 3: Remember My Love where she serves as the loyal minion to the film's antagonist, Ruu. She is a separate character to the other tanuki named Oshima.
Biography[]
This Oshima was a tanuki that Ruu discovered injured in a mountain forest one day and nursed back to health on an unknown planet some 280 years in the future from the present of 1985. Out of gratitude, she became his servant, and his only friend apart from his tutor, Lahla. When Ruu came up with his plan to abduct Lum and trap her in the mirror world in order to make her break up with Ataru Moroboshi, she assisted in his plan, disguising herself as a cute human girl (though she accidentally retained her tanuki ears and tail) to lure Ataru and Lum into the phony magic show, where Ruu turned Ataru into a pink hippo.
After Ruu drew Lum into his otherworldly lair, Oshima attempted to first guard Lum, and then to coax Lum into being nicer to Ruu by revealing his lonely background. She ultimately served as a witness to Ataru's reunion with Lum and their defeat of the curse that had corrupted Ruu, and then departed back to the future with him.
Trivia[]
- This Oshima is shown to be more competent with her human transformations than her namesake. Whereas the male Oshima's attempt to disguise himself as a maid looked like a male tanuki in an old-fashioned housekeeper's dress, this Oshima can assume an almost perfectly human form, save for maintaining tanuki ears and a tanuki's tail.
- Her seiyū also voiced Oshima and Kitsune.
- Her English voice actress, Kristen Foster also voiced Elle de Rosenbach, Lum's Mother and Old Woman of the Oak Forest.
