| In a rare turn of events, Lum joins her childhood friends Oyuki, Benten and Ran for a light meal at a cafe. She notes that Oyuki doesn't normally organize such get togethers, and Oyuki explains that Planet C-Urchin has been selected for development. Which means that it won't be long before somebody discovers their childhood teacher and tormenter, the robot CAO-2. This instantly strikes fear into the other three girls' hearts as they reminisce about how their feud with their teacher began. Ataru Moroboshi and Shutaro Mendo slip into the cafe and insert themselves into the conversation, and Lum continues the tale, concluding with how they stranded him on the uninhabited and worthless world of Planet C-Urchin. They start to discuss how to evade his wrath when he is freed, but they are too late; CAO-2 arrives in fury, smashing through the window and crushing all of the teens except Oyuki under his blackboard eraser-like body and coating them in chalk dust before flying off, considering himself avenged. | |||||

| Cherry has dropped by his niece's shrine and borrowed her kitchen for work on an experimental potion to purge a body of all worldly desires. Satisfied with his work, he cooks it into a taiyaki and offers it to his skeptical niece, but she won't touch it. Banished to the streets, he tries offering it to Konatsu-Neko instead, but the bakeneko senses something is up. He offers half to Ataru Moroboshi, who eats it and then faints dead away. Kotatsu-Neko throws his half away, and then carries Ataru home. Come evening, and Ataru is still sleeping, with his parents calmly consuming his portion of dinner. Suddenly, a ghostly d ouble of Ataru emerges from his body, his initial confusion giving way to the certainty that this must be a dream. He flies off into the night sky, and is startled when Lum excitedly joins him, asking when he learned to fly. Still convinced this is a dream, he tries to banish her, only to vanish himself, whisked away to a dark space that turns out to be the other side of Sakura's bathroom mirror. He narrowly evades the miko, then finds himself looking up from under the water of her bath. As she panics, he is whisked away again to Shinobu's bedside, just as she has lain down to sleep. Fortunately, he vanishes before she can turn fear to violence. Still, the encounter unnerves her enough that she hurries over to Ataru's house, where she meets Sakura and Cherry. They deduce that Cherry's potion worked, and when the ghostly manifestation of Ataru's worldly desires appears, they wrap him in a shimenawa and exorcise him, sending him flying off into the night sky before congratulating themselves on purifying the lecherous teen. The next day, Sakura is horrified to see Lum coming to class with Ataru's spirit on a shimenawa like a lead, whilst the physical Ataru is still at home, refusing to wake up. | |||||

| Tobimaro has once again returned to Tomobiki, and attempts to deliver a challenge by arrow letter to his rival Mendo. However, the letter is intercepted by Ryoko, and she beats Ton to the classroom, giving everybody a Hyottoko mask to (ostensibly) hide her brother. Tobimaro reaches the school and attempts to climb down on a rope so he can swing in through the window, and Lum attempts to give him a hand. Ryoko sees this and uses it as an excuse for drama, accusing Tobimaro of being unfaithful to her. She reminds him of how he crept into her room one night and begged her to elope with him, a claim that incenses her protective brother (and the lecherous Ataru), both of whom ignore Tobimaro's insistence that Ryoko is lying. The girls of Class 2-4 think this sounds very romantic, and being unable to disappoint them, Mendo gives Tobimaro his blessings. Ryoko whisks her new "husband" away, despite his protests, but is safely home by nightfall, explaining to her dumbstruck brother that it was all a joke. Tobimaro, meanwhile, has been left hogtied and crying in a pile of rubbish. | |||||

| At an otherwise normal breakfast, Ataru is horrified to learn that his parents are going to be taking a short trip to Atami and leaving him home alone, despite his protests. At class that day, he is left sulking - both over their departure and because they told him that they asked Lum to stay with and look after him. She asks Ataru what he'd like for dinner, and he sarcastically rattles off a disgustingly spicy menu - then shouts at her he wasn't being serious when she jots it down. When the rest of Class 2-4 learn that Ataru and Lum will be alone that night, Mendo attacks Ataru, asserting he cannot be allowed to be alone with Lum. Things only calm down when Ten arrives and claims he was told to keep an eye on them, something that Ataru finds a relief. After school, Lum promises to make dinner for Ataru and asks him not to eat out, secretly planting a small device on his back before she flies off. She uses this to summon Ataru home against his will once she's done, then sends Ataru and Ten off to bathe before dinner. Ataru doesn't want to eat, and is almost relieved when Mendo and Lum's fanboys suddenly burst in, wrecking everything. Lum zaps them for their violent intrusion, then forces Ataru to take a bite of her cooking all the same. At Ataru's reaction, she invites him to come to bed with her, to the rage of her would-be protectors. This angers Lum, who points out that Ataru is her husband before ordering them away. Ataru is initially against her proposal... and then he realizes that nothing would actually change if they did have sex, so he goes along with it. A quick bit of trickery to dispose of their unwanted guests, and Ataru finds himself in a rare moment of shyness... until he learns that Lum meant "sleep" completely literally. Also, he has to wear a hot, heavy anti-shock suit to protect himself from her nocturnal surges. | |||||

| School lets out for another day at Tomobiki High, and the girls of Class 2-4 get their daily shock when Ryunosuke Fujinami joins them in the changing room. This time, the crossdressing tomboy shrugs it off, full of hope for the future. Shinobu stays behind on clean-up duty, but on her way home, she gets the feeling that she is being followed. Running into Ryunosuke, she begs her to walk with her until she feels safe. Noticing that Ryunosuke seems upset, she discovers that Ryunosuke had snuck away to try and buy herself a bra, but found she simply doesn't have the money; her father won't give her an allowance specifically so she can never hope to save enough to buy girl's clothing. This revelation moves Shinobu to tears, which in turn causes her stalkers to reveal themselves; they are delinquents from Butsumetsu High, whose boss wants to go on a date with Shinobu. Upon realizing they've mistaken her for Shinobu's boyfriend, Ryunosuke attacks them in a rage. That night, she can't sleep, and resolves to steal the money she needs from her father, but this sadly gets her nowhere. The next day, the delinquents meet up with Shinobu again, and show a picture of their hideous-looking boss. They admit they don't particularly want her to date him either, and they concoct a plan; to break his heart by taking photos of Ryunosuke and Shinobu on a fake date. Ataru is mad with jealousy over this idea, but Ryunosuke agrees once they promise her a bra as payment. | |||||

| At Butsumetsu High, the three delinquents who work for Soban try to convince their boss to give up on his mad crush on Shinobu Miyaki, asserting that she has a boyfriend before leaving to take pictures as proof. At Tomobiki High, Ryunosuke Fujinami gets ready for her fake date with Shinobu, whilst her teary-eyed father prays to his ridiculous excuse for a shrine to her mother. Ryunosuke is completely focused on the bra she was promised for her role, and that gives her the courage to pose as the delinquents order. She even instinctively goes in to kiss Shinobu when they order her to do so, something she regrets as much for the act as for the slap that Shinobu gives her for trying. They next head to a cafe, where Ryunosuke tries to apologize and assure Shinobu that she's not into girls. Ataru suddenly shows up, stealing their drink and offering to give Ryunosuke a bra himself if she'll let him date Shinobu instead. Ryunosuke and Lum give Ataru a beating before Ryunosuke, Shinobu and the delinquents hurry off. They try to get some shots at a fountain, but Ataru interferes again. Suddenly, first Ryunosuke's father and then Soban arrives, each interfering in the date in different ways. Shinobu loses her patience and punches Soban, but he's so tough she only stuns him momentarily. The delinquents try to distract Soban by offering him the bra they were going to give Ryunosuke and claiming it's Shinobu's, but Ryunosuke won't let it go without a fight, which results in it being ripped in half. Desperate, Ryunosuke tries to claim the bra Ataru offered her as a bribe, but her father beats her to it and burns it. Mad with desire, Ryunosuke even goes so far as to try and steal Shinobu's, causing her to slap the tomboy again and storm off, having had enough. | |||||

| Onsen Mark is holding an English class for Class 2-4 when he notices a boy passing a huge bundle of small paper notes to Ataru Moroboshi. Intercepting them, he finds each note bears the name of a different girl, and it soon transpires that the boys of Class 2-4 were trying to hold a vote on who is the most beautiful girl in their class, if not Tomobiki High as a whole. Suddenly, the principal arrives, and is quite fascinated by the idea; when Ataru confesses to having swallowed a good number of the ballots, he decides that they will host a Miss Tomobiki contest the very next day, offering a 150,000 yen prize to the winner. Soon, eight girls have been selected by the boys of Tomobiki High, with Sakura entering in hopes of fattening her wedding fund; the angry girls of the school vote in Ryunosuke Fujinami as a middle finger to their horny male counterparts. First comes a strength test, to narrow those nine down to five; Shinobu, Lum, Sakura and Ryunosuke all pass legitimately, whilst Ran cheats with a strength-boosting brace. There is initially some problems when Ryunosuke's father refuses to let his "son" compete (nobody has the heart to tell Ryunosuke she got in through the girls votes), but he changes his tune upon hearing of the prize. Ataru declares himself chairman of the judging committee, and starts accepting donations from the Tomobiki Shopping Arcade, with the contest being scheduled for one week hence. | |||||

| After a week's anticipation, it's time for the first ever Miss Tomobiki High contest, where Lum, Ran, Sakura, Shinobu Miyaki and Ryunosuke Fujinami will compete to see who is the idea Tomobiki girl. Only Ryunosuke fails to see something odd in how the arena is set up... especially when the first match is a test of their intelligence, by the "use the tools to reach the dangling bananas" puzzle. Only Ryunosuke and Lum are willing to enter, with Ryunosuke winning on the technicality that she used the provided tools, whilst Lum just flew up and ate the banana. Next comes a ramen-eating contest, which Sakura effortlessly wins whilst trying to lose. Neither of these contests go down well with the audience, so they hurriedly move along to the swimsuit contest. Ran immediately sneaks off ahead of the changing rooms and sabotages Lum's bikini top, hoping to humiliate her rival. What she couldn't count on was the mad stupidity of Ryunosuke's father, who gave her a set of boy's beach trunks for her swimsuit. Lum generously gives Ryunosuke the bikini that Ran sabotaged, and makes her debut wearing a spare one-piece swimsuit she had, to Ran's dismay. | |||||

| The Miss Tomobiki High competition is now fully underway, and it's time for the swimsuit contest. Ran has tried to sabotage Lum, only to be inadvertently foiled when Lum gives her bikini to Ryunosuke as an act of kindness after her father tried to send her onto the stage in a set of boy's bathing trunks and nothing else. This leaves Ran desperately trying to cover her tracks, unaware that Lum has no idea what she did. Only Ryunosuke has yet to take to the stage, struggling to unwrap her sarashi (chest bindings) so she can put on the bikini top. Alas, her father's idiocy knows no bounds; he tries to rewrap her chest, asserting that if they see Ryunosuke without it, then everyone will realize she is "actually a boy". He steals the bikini top and runs out into the arena, with Ryunosuke following, clad in only a bikini bottom and a half-unraveled sarashi. A fierce brawl erupts before Ryunosuke's sarashi finally unravels, forcing her to cover her nudity with her hand and putting her at the disadvantage. Sakura, Shinobu and Lum come to Ryunosuke's defense, but the sabotaged bikini top gives way in the struggle. Shinobu gives Ryunosuke a dressing gown to cover her breasts, and she reluctantly puts her sarashi back on. Ataru announces that the swimsuit contest will now begin, and all five girls are given a set of ring shoes. Believing they will be fighting each other, Ran attempts to cheat by using her youth-sapping kiss on Ryunosuke, Shinobu and Sakura. She comes to regret this decision when their real opponents are unveiled: wild animals from the Tomobiki zoo! | |||||

| It's the climax of the Miss Tomobiki High contest, and its participants really should have expected something other than the straightforward from something organized by Ataru and the crazy principal. What they thought was a swimsuit contest turns out to be a swimsuited wrestling match, with Lum, Ran, Sakura, Ryunosuke Fujinami and Shinobu Miyaki facing off against a grizzly bear, a lion, a tiger, a gorilla and a python from the Tomobiki Zoo. Making things worse, Ran has sapped the strength from everyone else except Lum. A fierce battle ensues, but only Lum has any real might left, and even with her electric zaps she can't take down the beasts. Ran tries to cut and run like a coward, but is cornered by the lion. Seeing no other choice she kisses Sakura, restoring her monstrous strength to her and allowing her to start turning the tide with Lum. That just leaves Shinobu and Ryunosuke, but neither of them is into girls, and they haven't realized yet what Ran did the first time she kissed them. | |||||

| In the climactic battle of the Miss Tomobiki High contest, a swimsuited Lum, Ran, Sakura, Ryunosuke Fujinami and Shinobu Miyaki face off against a grizzly bear, a lion, a tiger, a gorilla and a python from the Tomobiki Zoo. Ran has been forced to start restoring the strength she stole from her human companions before the fight began; Sakura has her strength back, but Shinobu is repulsed by the idea of being kissed by a girl, causing her to try and fight the alien off. But Ran persists and finally gives her the restorative kiss; whilst Shinobu and Sakura begin pummelling the beasts, Ran sets her sights on Ryunosuke. But she is even less interested in the prospect than Shinobu, doing her best to evade. Finally, with Lum's help, Ran kisses Ryunosuke, and the now fully-restored team of supergals ultimately defeats their bestial foes. But the judges lost track of scoring them, so they declare it is a tie and give the girls one fifth each of the prize... 150,000 yen's worth of taiyaki. With the exception of Lum and Ran, none of them are happy with this outcome. | |||||
