Chapter # Title
10 ""Oyuki"
(お雪)
Chapter 10
Some of Lum's fanboys from Tomobiki High go to the Moroboshi house, hearing that Ataru is sick with a cold. When they get there, Shinobu is there nursing her one-time boyfriend, but Lum has gone to visit a friend on Neptune. Feeling a strange chill wind emanating from Ataru's closet, they open it, only to flood the room with snow. The mini-avalanche carries with it a beautiful girl, and she invites them all to return to her planet with her through a dimensional tunnel in the closet. She leads them to a strange world of snowy plains and crystal spires; this is Neptune, and she is Lum's friend, Princess Oyuki. Ataru's schoolmates are put to work shoveling snow, whilst Ataru and Shinobu are brought to the palace to speak with Oyuki and Lum for proper introductions. Ataru is immediately smitten with the beautiful elegant Neptunian, and soon has cause to flee the jealous wrath of both Lum and Shinobu. He is found by Oyuki, and taken into her personal quarters, where he begins putting the moves on her. Oyuki is quite willing, but Ataru's behavior attracts the wrath of B-bo, who chases the sickly boy all the way back to the tunnel to Ataru's closet and out into the streets of Tomobiki. Some time later, Ataru is still sick; the constant cold winds coming from Neptune via his closet aren't helping.
11 "Characteristic"
(性(さが), "Saga")
Chapter 11
Whilst forced to clean up the school grounds after a storm, Ataru stumbles across a strange, tiny egg, which he pockets. During class, their female teacher has a rip in the back of her skirt, which the boys admire until one of the girls informs her of this fact, causing her to flee in embarrassment and turn the lesson into homeroom. Ataru is initially happy, until Lum turns up. Then he has something else to focus on; the egg he found suddenly grows until it is nearly the size of a rugby ball. He doesn't have long to contemplate that bit of weirdness, as an angry Shinobu begins chasing him around the school. She catches him in the schoolyard, although the attention of the rest of Tomobiki High keeps her from beating him up. Suddenly, the egg begins to rapidly swell to a huge size. Two tiny girls suddenly appear, and explain that they and the egg, a sacred treasure from their village said to contain an unformed world, were blown away from their home on Mount Fuji by the storm yesterday. Despite their pleas, the egg feeds on Ataru's psyche, growing to the size of the schoolhouse before explosively cracking and transforming their surroundings into a bizarre miniature landscape, based on Ataru's personality. Stranded, the students and teachers can only bunker down and try to wait for dawn the next day, and the hope of rescue.
12 "We Are the Children"
(系図, "Keizu")
Chapter 12
Ataru wakes up late and tries desperately to get to school on time, as he's already been late the last four days in a row. When an inquisitive Lum comes flying along, Ataru tries to send her away, but he is so desperate to avoid being punished for his fifth consecutive day of tardiness that he reluctantly agrees to let Lum help him get to school on time. She uses an empty pipe in a vacant lot as the basis for a portal, and it seems to work... but Ataru finds his class full of strange adults. Then he spots a startling message on the blackboard: "1989 Class 1-4 Reunion". Somehow, Lum has sent them ten years into the future. He storms back outside, but is soon distracted from looking for her by his hunger. However, he is interrupted by a strange little boy, who steals Ataru's food. Reluctantly, he agrees to help Lum find the boy's parents. The boy reveals his name to Kokeru Moroboshi, which Lum and Ataru realize means he must be Ataru's son. However, he's clearly not Lum's child, and an intrigued Ataru goes in search of the boy's true mother. It initially appears that Kokeru's mother is a very ugly woman, and a disgusted Ataru leaves with a heartbroken Lum, thus missing the sight of Kokeru reuniting with his real mother; an older Shinobu Miyake. Upon returning to his own time, he finds it is evening, and he earns a scolding from his mother for skipping school.
13 "I'm Your Puppet"
((あやつり人形, "Ayatsuriningyō")
Chapter 13
One evening, after finishing up dinner, Ataru is asked by his mother to help clear the table. On the way to the kitchen, his body suddenly acts on its own accord. Rushing upstairs, Lum's behavior confirms his suspicions that she's the culprit. The Oni reveals that she has a new toy from her homeworld; special clay that can create functioning voodoo dolls. Inspired, Ataru creates a doll in the shape of Cherry, hoping to get back at the irritating old monk, but to his dismay learns that the doll is useless without a hair from the person it's meant to control. His dismay only deepens when Lum, inspired by Ataru's idea, decides to create a doll to enact revenge on Shinobu. He chases her to Shinobu's house and tries to talk her out of this scheme, but is interrupted when a stray cat sneaks into his room and steals his voodoo doll, causing him to be flung into (and then out of) Shinobu's bathroom... whilst Shinobu is bathing in it. A dejected Ataru heads back home, with Lum deciding to follow him, whilst unbeknownst to either of them Cherry plans to burn Ataru's doll.
14 "Not Yet Surfacing"
(いまだ浮上せず, "Imada Fujō Sezu")
Chapter 14
Brought up to some nearby mountains as part of a school project, Ataru slips away from his classmates for a secret rendezvous with Shinobu. His efforts to make out with her are foiled by her insistence that he climb a tree and recover a strange thing that seems to be a dried up frog. Even after she does so, she refuses to fool around with him. As they wander through the forest, they stumble across a spring, and are suddenly accosted by a female kappa, who seems to be smitten with Ataru. It's then revealed she's actually talking to the "dried frog" in Ataru's pocket, which is really her husband; once thrown into the spring, it becomes a giant male kappa, who insists on thanking Ataru by taking him to the kappa city in the depths of the spring. Ataru is unhappy, especially because the dancing girls are all kappa. Dismayed that he seems so disappointed with their hospitality, the kappas politely send him home with a mermaid escort... which only lands him in trouble with the jealous Shinobu and his envious classmates when he resurfaces.
15 "Tie a Yellow Ribbon"
(幸せの黄色いリボン, "Shiawase no Kiiroi Ribon")
Chapter 15
After having been zapped by an angry Lum for his latest indiscretions yet again, a fed-up Ataru seeks out Cherry and begs for his help, asking him to create some kind of seal that can bind the Oni's powers. Lum shows up just in time to hear Ataru badmouthing her, and she angrily chases him away, which makes Cherry decide to fulfill Ataru's request. The next day, he sends Ataru a magical yellow ribbon via one of Ataru's schoolmates, with a letter instructing Ataru on its use: if it is tied around both of Lum's horns, she will lose her flight and lightning powers. Ataru plays on Lum's infatuation with him, seducing her into letting him apply the ribbon. It takes effect at once, leaving a confused Lum incapable of flying or zapping. Ataru initially thinks his plan is wonderful... until he has to keep an enraged Shinobu from taking the ribbon away, and then two of Lum's fanboys invite themselves into his room and try to force themselves upon her in her weakened state. He defends her, but when she explains that she'll have to stay with him 24/7 now that she's flightless, he decides that this is even worse for his girl-chasing than before. He tries to take off the ribbon, but Lum refuses, and the sound of their struggle brings her horny fanboys back to her aid. In the resultant confusion, they find Cherry's letter and reveal the sordid truth. An enraged Lum bites and scratches Ataru, demanding he take off the ribbon, and he complies. Full of menace, she declares her intent to punish first Ataru, and then Cherry. As she begins zapping Ataru harder than ever, Cherry feels a premonition of doom and decides to seek shelter at his niece's shrine.
16 "Just Like a Woman"
(女になって出直せよ, "Onna ni Natte Denaoseyo")
Chapter 16
One evening, out on a school trip, Ataru and Shinobu spot a falling star, which crashes to Earth somewhere nearby. Investigating, they find a very confused Lum, as well as a drunken karasutengu. The crow goblin decides that Ataru is a "handsome prince", and radios his comrades, who abduct Ataru with swind-manipulative devices. They explain to Ataru that they are aliens in search of a suitable humanoid mate for their princess, Kurama. Ataru initially refuses, expecting her to be hideous, but quickly changes her tune when he sees she is actually a beautiful girl. Though the other karasutengu change their minds seeing Ataru's behavior, the drunken one opens her sleeping capsule and Ataru wakes her with a kiss before anyone can stop him. Kurama is initially displeased with him, but after the angry Lum flies in, zaps Ataru for cheating on her and drags him out, she decides she will steal Ataru from Lum. The next day, as Ataru helps prepare food with his classmates, Kurama shows up and puts Ataru through a series of trials intended to help purify him of his lechery. They all fail. Finally, she attempts to cure him by forcibly increasing his feminine characteristics. Even that fails to lower Ataru's desire for women.
17 "Dream Lover"
(思い過ごしも恋のうち, "Omoi Sugoshi mo Koi no Uchi")
Chapter 17
As another school day lets out at Tomobiki High, one of Shinobu's classmates asks if she knows where Ataru is; for days now he's been skipping out on cleanup duty, muttering about "pledging vows". This immediately makes Shinobu realize he's been sneaking off to hang out with Kurama. Meanwhile, Lum and Cherry sneak after Ataru, tracking him down to Kurama's disguised spaceship. Here, they confront the tengu princess, and she explains that she has been trying to improve Ataru's intelligence and moral character so that he might be a worthy mate. She hasn't had any real success. The next day, both Lum and Shinobu try to stop Ataru from attending his next rendezvous, but they ironically fail. Indeed, they unwittingly propel Ataru into Kurama's latest scheme; a spiritual obstacle course intended to curb his lustfulness by exposing him to terrifying visions based on the young girls he most lusts after. But even this fails to work.
