147 | "Family Feud" (激闘、父子鷹!!, "Gekitou, oyako daka!!")
Ataru, Lum, Shinobu and Mendo arrive on the beach, but find they picked a bad day for it; the sea is far too rough to swim in, and so they are alone on the beach. As they wander along, they discover a strange pair shouting insults at the sea, which quickly gives way to them brawling with each other. Upon realizing they have company, the two take the four teens into the nearby Hamachaya beach cafe, where they introduce themselves as the Fujinamis. Whilst the father is proud of his family cafe and looks forward to passing it on to the teenage Ryunosuke, Ryunosuke has no interest in inheriting it. Mainly because she's a girl, and her father insists on trying to make her into a boy. Shinobu and Lum want to help father and daughter make peace, but Ataru and Mendo keep vacillating, especially when it turns out that Ryunosuke will bludgeon any man who tries to touch her. When father and daughter simultaneously punch each other out, the well-meaning teens chain them to opposing support beams... but, upon regaining consciousness, the two are so determined to continue fighting that they rip their way free, collapsing the cafe atop themselves. The Fujinamis continue fighting amidst the wreckage, whilst Ataru and company give up and go home.
148 | "Hello, Sailor Suit!" (セーラー服よ、コンにちは!!, "Seeraa fukuyo, KONnichiwa!!")
On their way to school, Ataru and Lum run into an unexpected sight; a man and an androgynous teenager having a brawl in the middle of the street. They recognize the two as Ryunosuke Fujinami and her crazy father, who they met on a beach the previous week. Mr. Fujinami explains that since they destroyed the Hamachaya, he got a new job working at Tomobiki High School to repair it, and the now-quartet continues on to school. Once they arrive, however, Ryunosuke is enraged to discover her father officially enrolled her as a boy. He responds by whipping out a fuku and taunting Ryunosuke with it, declaring she can wear it if she beats him in a fight. Excited by the idea, as Ataru and Lum explain what her situation is to the confused students, Ryunosuke whips off her shirt in anticipation of the fight. This is the wrong move to make with Ataru around, and he latches onto her, giving Mr. Fujinami an opening to bludgeon his daughter unconscious. Once Ryunosuke is formally settled into Class 2-4, she immediately becomes very popular with the girls. This doesn't sit well with the jealous boys, who figure that if they give Ryunosuke a fuku to wear, she'll lose her androgynous charm. They promptly gang up on Mr. Fujinami, bludgeon him into submission, and take the fuku... however, though Ryunosuke yearns to wear it, she is too honorable to do so before having defeated her father.
149 | "Bloomer Bloopers" (ブルマーを求めて!!, "Burumaa o motomete")
It's time for Ryunosuke Fujinami's first PE class since moving to Tomobiki High School. Unfortunately, her crazed father registered her as a boy, and the space cadet principal agrees to place her in the boy's PE class, over the protests of Onsen Mark. This is great news to the horny guys of Class 2-4, who are eavesdropping on the conversation; today's PE is a judo class, and so they see an opportunity to get up close and personal with her. Unaware of this, Ryunosuke tries to buy a set of girl's gym shorts from Kotatsu Neko, who is running the store in her father's absence, but he bribed the ghostly cat to refuse Ryunosuke service, and her outrage is no match for the spectral strength of the bakeneko. Ryunosuke's father returns and taunts her, vowing that if she can defeat the entirety of Class 2-4's male students in judo today, he'll give her some bloomers. Fired up, Ryunosuke fights hard, and eventually triumphs over her classmates. Unfortunately for her, whilst she may be concerned with her honor, her father isn't; instead he hides nearby and refuses to come out until Ataru manages to throw Ryunosuke to the floor by ambushing her whilst she's distracted looking for her father. As soon as she hits the ground, he leaps out and proclaims her the loser of their bet.
150 | "Ran, Scent of a Woman, Part 1" (蘭は女の香り=その1=, "Ran ha onna no kaori, sono 1")
Morning comes to Tomobiki High School, and Ryunosuke wakes to her father's latest outrage: a new school shirt with the symbol for "male" stitched on it. She fights to resist it, but he ultimately wins, having slipped paralysis powder into her breakfast first. As the bloodied and bruised girl heads off to class, she runs into Ran, who offers Ryunosuke a handkerchief to staunch the bleeding before running off. Ryunosuke is left awestruck by Ran's femininity. In class, Lum spots the handkerchief, and Ryunosuke demands to know Ran's address and phone number, but when Lum offers to just introduce them, Ryunosuke refuses, claiming to be too shy. Her male classmates wonder if maybe Ryunosuke is attracted to girls, and Mendo is volunteered to ask her out, only to be brutally shot down, further sparking gossip. Throughout the day, Ryunosuke spies on Ran, and ultimately leaves her a message asking if they can spend time together in Ran's shoe locker. Puzzled, Ran goes to ask Lum who Ryunosuke is; when Lum tells her that Ryunosuke is a girl, Ran refuses to believe it, instead fixating onto the idea that Lum is just jealous of Ryunosuke being attracted to Ran and not Lum. The vengeful alien declares that she will date Ryunosuke if it upsets Lum so much, and won't let Lum talk sense into her. She immediately heads to the school store and arranges to go out with Ryunosuke in a week.
151 | "Ran, Scent of a Woman, Part 2" (蘭は女の香り=その2=, "Ran ha onna no kaori, sono 2")
One week has passed since Ran arranged to take Ryunosuke out on a date, and the time has finally arrived. Ran apologizes to her shrine of Rei that it's nothing serious before heading out. At the Moroboshi house, Ataru is enraged that Ran and Ryunosuke would date each other instead of him, and vows to stop it. At Tomobiki High, Ryunosuke and her father are preparing for her date with Ran, and her father is so excited about it that he even refuses to fight with her, not wanting his "son" to make a bad impression. Ryunosuke finishes getting ready and leaves, mentally gloating to herself that with Ran as her guide, she will finally master the arts of feminine behavior that have escaped her for so long. Meanwhile, Ataru and Lum are looking for Ryunosuke and Ran, before Lum brings up that neither of them knows where to start looking. Rather than waste the day, she insists on taking Ataru out for a date. Ironically, they end up at the same coffee shop where Ran and Ryunosuke are, with Ryunosuke eager both to taste her first ever parfait and to study Ran's approach to proper eating. Ataru tries repeatedly to interfere, which only furthers Ran's conviction that Lum is jealous of her and Ryunosuke. The date ends with the two girls cuddling in the bottom of a rented rowboat, much to Ryunosuke's confusion.
152 | "The Arduous Path to Womanhood" (努力、女の道!!, "Doryoku, onna no michi")
The morning after Ryunosuke's date with Ran, she tries to put her newly learned feminine eating habits to use at the breakfast table. Her father just mocks her, proclaiming that she is far too masculine to ever learn proper womanly behavior. This leaves Ryunosuke in a deep funk when she arrives at class. Ataru offers to teach her how to speak and act in a more feminine manner, with Mendo, Shinobu and Lum all chiming in on his lesson. Unfortunately for Ryunosuke, Ataru has ulterior motives; citing that girls shouldn't be violent, he chains her wrists together and tries to kiss her, only for Ryunosuke to fight him off with her legs. The other students chime in about her macho behavior, and Ryunosuke's father arrives to once again proclaim that Ryunosuke has become far too masculine to ever truly become a woman. Heartbroken, Ryunosuke calls him out that he's ruined her life; even if she can't ever learn how to be a girl, that doesn't change her biology, so she can never be a boy. Her father promptly claims that he was originally a girl too; whilst he admits that this is just a joke moments later, the statement is so horrifying that everyone in class except Ryunosuke faints on the spot.
153 | "Proof of Womanhood" (女の証明!, "Onna no shoumei!")
It's another morning at Tomobiki High School, and soon the Fujinamis are fighting once again. This time over Mr. Fujinami refusing to accept that his "son" is a girl, and one who retains enough feminine modesty that she objects to her father looking at her in her underwear or touching her breasts. This time, however, the fight causes Ryunosuke to accidentally crush a curious Ten with a thrown table. Enraged, the infant oni tries to blast Ryunosuke with his flame breath as she runs to get to class, but he misses, thanks to Ryunosuke's thrown lunch hitting him in the head. Ten goes to Class 2-4 to complain to Lum; upon spotting Ryunosuke taking her seat, he tries to flame her again, but Mendo grabs him and makes him redirect the fire at Ataru instead. Ten protests about Ryunosuke's hitting him earlier, and tries again, this time with Ataru turning the fire on Mendo. The others try to convince Ten that Ryunosuke is really a girl, not a boy, but their efforts are less than successful; she has no idea how to express physical affection properly due to her father's brutish idea of nurturing, and her sarashi (chest bindings) mean that when Ten nuzzles her chest, he deems she's too flat to be anything other than a boy. Ryunosuke is so insulted, and determined to "win the fight", that she promptly takes Ten to the backroom of the school shop and takes off her sarashi so Ten can nuzzle her breasts. Much to her father's rage, who tries to argue that men can have soft, cuddly chests too by sticking a pillow under his shirt.
154 | "Art Is a Sport!" (絵画はスポーツだ!, "Kaiga wa supootsu da!!")
It's art class at Tomobiki High School, and Class 2-4 has been brought to the Tomobiki Zoo and told they must all paint pictures of Yotaro the ostrich. They're not thrilled by the idea... any more than Yotaro is by their insulting him. He promptly leads them on a wild chase around the zoo, until he discovers Mendo, Kosuke, Ataru and Lum sitting on a bench, with Mendo attempting to sketch Yotaro from memory. The ostrich is so offended that he takes Mendo's sketchboard and draws himself, very pleased at the admiration he receives from the students. Yotaro is far less pleased when the art teacher arrives and chastises the four students by saying they must have used a different, far more handsome, ostrich as their model. The boys start sketching Yotaro by spying on him in disguise, but he responds by stomping on all their sketches and making them unusable. However, he is quite willing to pose for the girls... and then, when insulted by Lum's poor sketching skills, he takes it out on the boys again, including Ryunosuke, who is very offended. In the last twenty minutes, Class 2-4 comes up with a creative solution: they work together to create a mural of Yotaro, thus preventing the ostrich from interfering until they have it finished.
155 | "The Female Groom" (花婿、それは女!!, "Hanamuko, sona wa onna!!")
Aboard her spaceship, Kurama is looking over a series of slides of potential groom candidates, and rejecting all of them... until the very last one: Ryunosuke Fujinami. Judging "him" to pass the looks criteria, she sends her karasutengu to test Ryunosuke's character. They find Tomobiki High's resident bifauxnen returning home from a public bath, and stage tests of strength, courage and kindness for her, which she unknowingly passes with flying colors. That evening, two karasutengu come to the Fujinami's shop/home in Tomobiki High and reveal the tests, before asking her to become Kurama's husband. She promptly throws them out on their ears. Undaunted, Kurama has her minions attack Class 2-4 with sleeping gas and bring Ryunosuke to her ship the next morning, though they inadvertently bring Ataru and Lum along with them. Whilst Ataru distracts Kurama, refusing to accept her refusal of his "proposal", Ryunosuke explains to the karasutengu that she's a girl. They promptly whip out a sex-changer raygun to fix that problem, but she breaks it and leaves.
156 | "Ataru Becomes a Woman" (あたる、女へ!!, "Ataru, onna e!!")
It's been a week since Kurama decided she wanted to claim Ryunosuke Fujinami as her husband, and her karasutengu arrive at Tomobiki High School with a new sex-change raygun. They plead with Ryunosuke to become a boy and father Kurama's children, but she refuses and runs off to class. As they struggle to carry the heavy device to Class 2-4, Ataru stumbles upon them, and whilst poking around, accidentally zaps himself with the raygun. He doesn't realize the effects at first... until shortly afterwards; whilst roughhousing in the class, he learns the hard way he's been turned into a girl, which freaks out everybody. The karasutengu soon arrive, and once again beg Ryunosuke to let them change her. When she refuses, they declare they will only turn Ataru back if she becomes a man first - a lie, because they only have one shot left. Ryunosuke's honorable nature means she ultimately submits to this demand... but, at the last moment, Ataru crushes the gun, his perverse sense of chivalry preventing him from letting Ryunosuke sacrifice her womanhood for him.
157 | "Sex-Change Shenanigans" (性転のヘキレキ!!, "Seiten no he kireki!!")
Kurama is aboard her spaceship when she receives word from her karasutengu minions that they have accidentally turned Ataru Moroboshi into a girl. She is puzzled why they'd do that, but figures that this will make him stop chasing her. She declares her intent to visit her chosen groom, Ryunosuke Fujinami, but her minions stop her and beg for her to let them go ahead. Meanwhile, Lum and the genderbent Ataru are taking shelter at the Fujinami's residence behind the Tomobiki High school store; when the karasutengu arrive, Ataru immediately demands they change him back, but is informed that a replacement sex-change raygun hasn't arrived yet. Mr. Fujinami is delighted to hear about this plan to turn Ryunosuke into a boy, but she wants none of it, forcing the karasutengu to feed her a hiccup pill to foil her plans of simply telling Kurama the truth. Kurama arrives and tries to get affectionate with Ryunosuke, only to be foiled deliberately by Lum and accidentally by Ataru, who is trying to get handsy with her. As Ataru keeps Kurama distracted, the karasutengu deliver the new sex-change raygun, and Ryunosuke's father immediately tries to use it on his daughter. Being unaware of the truth, Kurama saves Ryunosuke from being zapped. Unfortunately, Ataru intervenes again, and Ryunosuke must flee her father until Kurama can intervene again. Ryunosuke finally flashes her breasts at Kurama to prove she's really a girl, but this doesn't dissuade her father or the karasutengu, who work together to hit Ryunosuke with the very last shot in the gun. Fortunately for everybody, Kurama accidentally throws Ataru in the way of the last shot when the genderbent boy gets handsy one last time, before taking her minions home in disgust.
158 | "Late Autumn...and Matsutake" (晩秋、そしてまつたけ!!, "Banshuu ... soshite ma-tsu-ta-ke!!")
Onsen Mark is teaching Class 2-4 when he notes a daikon radish sticking out of Ataru's bookbag. Suspicious, he orders his students to turn out their belongings, and they reveal they have brought a wide variety of ingredients and cooking implements to the classroom. They suddenly pounce on him and tie him up, revealing that they have made plans to cook a big class hotpot now that it is late autumn. The mention of food brings Cherry crawling out of hiding, and when he is scornfully warned that only those who contribute may eat, he presents a basket full of what appear to be the rare and valuable matsutake mushrooms. The students eagerly accept this contribution, whilst Cherry keeps quite on the fact that they actually are not matsutake, but instead wild mushrooms of his own cultivation. The suspicious old monk carefully avoids eating any from his own serve of hotpot, and is proven right to do so, as those who do start acting very strangely indeed. Carefully eating his fill of the safe ingredients, Cherry then wanders off and leaves the drugged students to their own devices, congratulating himself on being smart enough not to eat toxic mushrooms.
159 | "Haunted Bottle" (妖怪徳利!!, "Youkai dekkuri!!")
Ataru, Lum and Ten drop around to visit Sakura at her shrine, finding their visit to coincide with Cherry's. Cherry brings up that today is haunted bottle day, and he and Sakura begin getting ready to conduct some kind of ritual. Lum asks Ataru what a haunted bottle is, but he refuses to answer, being far more focused on trying to peep on Sakura as she changes clothes. Once they are dressed, Sakura explains to Ataru that today is the 300th anniversary of the day that an ancestor of hers defeated a sake-stealing spirit and sealed it in a bottle, and now they must check on the spirit and see if it has reformed. However, they pay for ignoring Lum and Ten when they discover that the ignorant aliens have stolen the bottle and are intent on opening it. Which they achieve by dropping it from a great height into the Fujinamis' residence at Tomobiki High, where Mr. Fujinami and Onsen Mark are sharing some friendly drinks. Sakura and the others track them down, but not before Mr. Fujinami feeds the spirit some sake and restores it. Before it can escape, Sakura and Cherry seal the spirit, along with Mr. Fujinami and Onsen Mark, in a side room with the intent of leaving them there to sober up.
160 | "My Mom the Firefighter, Part 1" (母子断絶火事模様=その1=, "Hahako danzetsu kajimoyou, sono 1")
Ataru and Ten are having yet another fight in Ataru's room. After the initial scuffle, Ataru complains that he's sick of Ten's bratty behavior and would like to speak to Ten's parents, demanding to know where they are and why they let Ten just live with him 24/7. Ten protests that his parents are both very busy working. Suddenly, a small robot arrives, carrying a message that Ten's mother is about to drop by to visit her son. Moments later, the oni herself drops in on her hoverbike. Ataru soon realizes that Ten is acting unusually subdued and obedient, with Lum explaining that Ten wants to be on his best behavior before his mother. The conversation shifts to Ten being responsible with his fire breath, leading to Ten's mother revealing that she hates and despises those who are careless with fire. She goes downstairs to meet Ataru's parents, leaving Ataru commenting on the irony of a firefighter mother and a pyromaniac son. Ten tries to threaten Ataru to keep his misbehavior a secret, but Ataru brings out a fire bell and with a single ring, Ten's mother comes charging in, forcing Ten to swallow his anger and behave himself. Ataru revels in having the upper hand, bonking Ten repeatedly with the fire striker, then ringing it when Ten goes to flame him, making it clear that he will exploit Ten's mother and her effect on her son for as long as she's here. That evening, the Moroboshis, Lum and Ten's mother sit down to a peaceful dinner, whilst Ten sits sulking on the rooftop, vowing revenge.
161 | "My Mom the Firefighter, Part 2" (母子断絶火事模様=その2=, "Hahako danzetsu kajimoyou, sono 2")
Ten's mother decides to stay the night at the Moroboshis to be with her son, which causes Ten to have nightmares of when he was a baby and she would obliviously terrorize him into silence by telling him horror stories of what she did to people who were reckless with fire. That morning, Ataru's parents comment on how unusually quiet and well-behaved Ten is being, but Ataru reassures Ten's mother that this is normal behavior for her son, secretly tormenting the boy under her nose. At school, Ataru can't resist gloating to Class 2-4 about how scared Ten is with his mom around to curb his pyro behavior. Ten arrives, gloating that he can still be his usual bratty self when his mother isn't around, and he took the precaution of stealing Ataru's firebell before school. His triumph is short lived when Kosuke deftly rings the bell Ten is brandishing, summoning Ten's mother in an instant. At lunch, Ataru finds a love letter on his desk asking him to come to the broadcasting room. It is, of course, a trap from Ten, who chose the room for its soundproofing - but forgot that Ataru knows how to turn on the system. Ten's mother arrives and floods the school in her eagerness to douse the non-existent fire, snuffing her son's revenge in the process. But Ten tries again, and luckily for him, when a pretty girl is hinted to be involved, Ataru is dumb enough to fall for the same trick twice. Ten binds Ataru to a tree and then sets it on fire; but whilst he has prevented Ataru from ringing the bell, this blaze is big enough for Ten's mother to see, and she comes racing to the rescue. Ten does get the last laugh in the end, however, when Ataru accidentally smashes the school with the tree's scorched remains and gets a week's suspension.
162 | "L❤ve-Darling in Danger" (愛◆ダーリンの危機!!, "Ai Daalin no kiki!!")
Whilst out for a walk one day, Ataru discovers Ran, heading purposefully off to an unknown destination and carrying a basket. Ataru tries to sneak up on her, but is distracted when something falls from her basket; when he looks up after picking it up, she's gone. Looking at the bundle, Ataru finds a delicious-looking cupcake, which he promptly eats. He is about to start off again when he suddenly faints. Fortunately, Lum finds him soon afterwards, belly bloated and moaning in agony. She whisks him home and has a medical droid attend him, but the prognosis is grim. Seeing Ran's name embroidered on the handkerchief that Ataru is clutching, Lum decides that this must be a plot on her half and goes in search of her for an antidote, pausing only to take a remote monitor for Ataru's vital signs. At the site where she found Ataru, she discovers a spatial distortion, and presuming that this is where Ran went, she enters it. Lum finds herself in a strange otherworld, and desperately explores it in hope of finding Ran, encountering many bizarre sights. Suddenly, her monitor flatlines, and Lum breaks down in hysterical tears. Her crying reaches Ran and Rei, who come running to her side, and they swiftly carry her back to Ataru's room. Mercifully, Ataru is just fine, and in fact he's recovered from what he ate - Cherry just pulled the cord out of the machine. It transpires that the cake wasn't poisoned, just super-heavy to cope with Rei's appetite, and Lum is forced to apologize to Ran.
163 | "The Wild Christmas Tree Party!" (クリスマスツリーわいわいパーティー!!, "Kurisumasu chirii waiwai paatee!!")
Christmas is just around the corner when some of Ryoko Mendo's kuroko deliver letters to the Moroboshi household inviting Ataru, Lum and Ten to attend a Christmas party. Unfortunately, they should have expected the unusual when the Mendo family is involved, and even more so when something is the brainchild of the sadistic Ryoko. Once all of the invited have arrived, Ryoko challenges them to scale the enormous Christmas tree to reach the highest floor of the building, where awaiting them will be a huge feast - as well as a kiss from the Mendo siblings for the first boy and girl to reach the top! With such incentives, everyone immediately begins scrambling for the top, even as fights begin to break out amongst the more conflict-prone competitors. However, their pace is too slow for Ryoko, who soon grows bored, and in a fit of pique she activates a hidden trigger, causing the tree to go sailing off into the sky and then detonate like an enormous firework.
164 | "Slumbering Family Heirloom" (家宝は寝て待て!!, "Kahou wa nete mate!!")
On a cold winter's morning, Shutaro Mendo is summoned to the bedside of his grandfather. After a few silly shenanigans, the supposedly dying old man pleads for his grandson to find a family treasure that has supposedly been lost for ages, without which he claims he will not be able to rest in peace. Shutaro agrees to find it, and is startled when his classmates suddenly arrive en masse, eager to help and obviously hoping for a share in the treasure. Although Mendo attempts to lose them, his efforts are foiled by his grandfather. The motley group sets out across the vast expanse of the Mendo family estate, and eventually come to where the treasure should be. However, it merely reveals a secret passage right back to Mendo's grandfather, and in questioning how this could be, Mendo finally asks what the missing treasure is. As it transpires, the treasure is a silly mask depicting the comedy character Hyottoko... and Mendo's grandfather is already wearing it. The group as a whole is dismayed to realize that Mendo's grandfather is going quite senile, so their whole expedition was pointless.
165 | "Ryunosuke's Quality Family Time" (竜之介一家団らん!!, "Ryunosuke ichi kadanran")
It's well into January, and the Fujinami family are missing, leaving behind only a note saying they were going to be in training up in the cold mountains. Ataru laments that he wanted to invite Ryunosuke to go skiing with him. Up in the mountains, Ryunosuke packs her bag and gets ready to leave; over the days she has spent out here in the wilderness, only she has engaged in any rigorous training, whilst her father has simply lazed around near a warm fire and eaten all the food. Her father initially tries to stop her from leaving, but after discovering that the really are out of supplies, he joins her. They descend to the nearest town, where they discover Ataru, Lum, Ten, Shinobu and Mendo are at the local ski resort. Ryunosuke's father scares off the tourists and then breaks in to steal his fill of food, much to his daughter's chagrin, then orders her back up the mountain to resume training. When she refuses, he challenges her to a duel to decide whether she stays or goes, which he then wins by cheating. Despite this, the honorable Ryunosuke agrees to the terms and follows him back up the mountain... where he resumes lazing around and expecting her to do all the hard work.
166 | "Lum's Wrath" (怒りのラムちゃん!!, "Ikari no Ramu-chan")
An excited Lum puts the last finishing touches on a scarf she has just knitted for her beloved Ataru, and then goes to present her creation to him. Unfortunately, she finds him in the middle of a fight with Ten, and the enraged young oni unthinkingly burns Lum's scarf to embers. Ataru immediately seizes this opportunity and starts scolding Ten, metaphorically burying him under the weight of what he has done and sending him fleeing in a mixture of guilt and terror that he has finally done something bad enough to arouse Lum's wrath. He's unaware that Lum is far more focused on her joy at Ataru's apparent acceptance of this expression of her love than on any anger she may feel with Ten for destroying it, although Ataru attempts to encourage her to get mad at Ten. In the streets, Ten runs into Cherry, who advises him to apologize to Lum for what he did. Unsure of how to do so, Ten first looks for advice, talking to Shutaro Mendo and watching the Fujinamis before deciding to try his luck at apologizing. He goes to Lum's UFO, only to apparently discover her in a violent rage over his misbehavior. Terrified, he resolves to leave Tomobiki, but he runs into Sakura, who gives him some good advice. He sneaks back to Ataru's room and paints an apology on the sleeping Ataru's back, before leaving to give Lum time to cool down.
167 | "So Long, Hot Springs Emblem" (さらば温泉マーク!!, "Saraba Onsen-Maaku")
Rumors are flying around Tomobiki High School that Onsen Mark is planning to transfer. And the rumors are true. But he asks the Principal that, before he goes, they hold a great school-wide race, that he may have a good memory of the students before he leaves. The principal agrees, but when news of this reaches Class 2-4, Ataru immediately leads a plan for them to ditch Onsen Mark's race as revenge for all the times he's punished them - of course, Onsen Mark is anticipating this and determined to stop it. That evening, both Ataru and Onsen Mark dig pit traps for each other, ironically doing so within feet of each other. The next morning, the race begins. The students try to ditch, but find the teachers are waiting for them in various disguises, forcing them to adhere to the rules. Onsen Mark and Ataru square off for a final climactic showdown... and fall into each other's pit traps. In the end, it turns out that the other school has denied to accept Onsen Mark's transfer, so he'll stay at Tomobiki High.
168 | "It's Our Setsubun Festival Feud!" (うちらの節分ケンカ祭りだっちゃ!!, "Uchira no Setsubun kenka matsuri datcha!")
It's only a few days until Setsubun, and high in orbit over Earth, Lum contacts Benten by video-call, only to be told that the great Oni/God of Luck duel is being cancelled this time too. Dismayed, the two decide to have a personal battle to celebrate the year instead. Remembering the last Setsubuns, Lum glumly admits that Ataru will betray her and cosy up to Benten instead. So she hatches a plan; the night before Setsubun, she glues a pair of fake oni horns to Ataru's head, so he is forced to stay on the oni team, a plan that Benten is perfectly happy to go along with. At school the next day, Benten shows up for her duel, and happily blasts Ataru as well - along with anyone that Ataru manages to stick a set of horns to. Class 2-4 soon becomes a battle as the horned and hornless kids rally around Lum and Benten, devolving into a brawl that the two alien girls find very cheerful. |
